Today, as a #developer , I had to deal with some negative feedback on one of my Chrome extensions. A user believes my software isn’t working properly and did not provide details for how to reproduce the issue. The user has been contacted (no response yet) and there is no way to remove the negative review unless the user decides to do so.
This creates a conflict. Obviously, as the creator I strongly feel that the software is working. If it isn’t clear, I have to balance the opinion of the user and be respectful to them and open-minded that they may be right, while also firmly believing in my own product.
How much does this bother me? Hardly at all. As a developer, I just have to live with it. It comes with the territory.
This also represents the dark side of the review process that many internet users may not be aware of. The next time you review something, consider what your review is saying about the product. It is all-too-common for users to rate software poorly because it doesn’t do more than it is (or can be) designed to do. If the product matches the description, rate it highly and ask for more! 🙂
